About the Department of Econometrics

Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Econometrics offers undergraduate and graduate education. Undergraduate students receive the title of ‘econometrician’ after graduation, while graduate education gives the diploma of the Department of Econometrics. Students who want to prefer the Department of Econometrics should have high numerical thinking skills, be bored of dealing with numbers and be used to disciplined work. Students of the Department of Econometrics, who receive education supported by econometrics, operations and statistics package programmes, have the ability to process, analyse and report data after graduation.

Apart from a comprehensive econometrics education, students can gain knowledge in the fields of economics and administrative sciences with a large number of elective courses offered by a qualified academic staff.  In the undergraduate programme, the courses are given in semesters and the first four semesters are intensive in the basic courses at the knowledge level. Starting from the fifth semester, an intensive education programme is implemented with compulsory and elective courses in econometrics, statistics and operations research.

Our main goal is to educate individuals who are respectful to human rights, who can take part in team work and who are responsible by providing a participatory and creative learning environment. For this purpose, an education programme based on interdisciplinary knowledge by using the power of science and technology is applied in order to educate students who are experts in the fields of econometrics, statistics and operations research, who can produce solutions to complex economic and financial problems, who have developed problem solving skills, and who will contribute to society.

Graduates of the department find a wide range of career opportunities in public and private sectors, international institutions and organisations, higher education institutions as analysts, data scientists, researchers, consultants, planning experts, statisticians, policy experts, reporting experts, project managers, econometricians or academic staff.

History

Department of Econometrics was established in 2009 as an affiliate of Balıkesir University Bandırma Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. It started to give education in 2010-2011 academic year. The department was included in Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, which was established by Law No. 6640 published in the Official Gazette dated 23 April 2015 and numbered 29335. In the 2016-2017 academic year, the Econometrics Master's Programme with Thesis also started to provide education.

Since its establishment, our department heads are Prof. Dr. Galip ALTINAY and Prof. Dr. Metehan YILGÖR respectively. Currently, Prof. Dr. Metehan YILGÖR is the head of the department.

Foreign Language: The programme does not have foreign language preparatory education.

Vocational Training/Internship: The programme does not have vocational preparatory education and compulsory internship.

Admission Requirements: In order to obtain the right to enroll in the department, it is necessary to make a choice with the score obtained in the equal weight score type from the YKS exam held by ÖSYM and not to be registered in another higher education undergraduate programme offering formal education.

Horizontal Transfer: It is made according to the provisions of the Regulation on the Principles of Transferring Between Associate Degree and Bachelor's Degree Programmes, Double Major, Minor and Credit Transfer Between Institutions in Higher Education Institutions published in the Official Gazette dated 24.04.2010 and numbered 27561 issued by the Council of Higher Education.

Vertical Transfer: It is made according to the provisions of the Regulation on the Continuation of Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programmes to Undergraduate Education published in the Official Gazette dated 19.02.2002 and numbered 24676.

Double Major/Minor: Double major/minor provisions are not yet applied for students studying in the Department of Econometrics.

Foreign Student Admission: No foreign student quota has been allocated to the Department of Econometrics.

Identification of Prior Learning:  The Regulation on the Principles of Transferring Between Associate Degree and Bachelor's Degree Programmes, Double Major, Minor and Inter-institutional Credit Transfer in Higher Education Institutions and the principles and conditions determined by the Senate of our University are applied.

The provisions of the ‘Regulation on the Continuation of Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programmes to Undergraduate Education’ are applied for the transition of Vocational School graduates to the relevant undergraduate programmes by continuing their education. This regulation regulates the transition process of vocational school graduates to undergraduate education and determines the necessary procedures.

Cooperation : Our university has international student exchange programmes within the scope of YÖK Mevlana Programme and Erasmus Programme and national student exchange programmes within the scope of YÖK Farabi Programme. Department students can benefit from the programmes by completing the necessary documents within the application period of the programmes.
