INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY PANEL

OUR DEAN TOOK PART AS A MODERATOR IN THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY PANEL.
A panel titled “The Importance and Position of Women in Society” was organized by the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce Women Entrepreneurs Board within the scope of March 8 International Women's Day. The panel, which discussed the concept of “Union of Forces for Equality”, was moderated by our Dean Prof. Dr. Serap Palaz, while the speakers in the panel were Prof. Dr. Gökhan Orhan, Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at our Faculty, and Prof. Dr. Vehbi Bayhan, Head of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at BANÜ.

The opening speech of the program was made by Gözde Engür, Head of the Women Entrepreneurs Board at the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce. Engür emphasized that women's economic empowerment is not only an individual but also a social gain. Our Dean, Prof. Dr. Serap Palaz, drew attention to the fact that gender equality can be achieved not only through laws but also by starting in the mindset of society. While the program speakers’ presentations continued, BANU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sociology Department Head Prof. Dr. Vehbi Bayhan conveyed how the concept of gender shapes individuals’ identities. Bayhan said, “Femininity and masculinity are not innate and unchangeable characteristics; on the contrary, they are identities shaped in line with the roles society assigns to us.” Addressing women’s social position and inequalities, Prof. Dr. Gökhan Orhan stated that global data shows that women are disadvantaged in many areas. Orhan said, “The scales are not very even. Women face a very serious disadvantage compared to men.”

At the end of the panel, gifts were presented to the participants in a raffle to commemorate the day, and our Dean and the panelists were presented with gifts by Bandırma Chamber of Commerce Assembly President Funda Dedeoğlu and Bandırma Chamber of Commerce Women Entrepreneurs Board President Gözde Engür.
