Department Introduction

The Department of Public Finance was founded in 2003, under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Balıkesir University Bandırma. The department was included in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, which was established with the Law No. 6640 published in the Official Gazette dated 23 April 2015 and numbered 29335. In the department, English preparatory class practice is carried out depending on the student's request.


In the department of public finance, where education is given in the formal and evening education level, educational activities and academic activities are carried out within the following departments:

• Department of Financial Economics
• Department of Finance Theory
• Department of Financial Law
• Budget and Financial Planning Department

The department of public finance, which also includes graduate and doctoral education programs, has a young and dynamic staff who can guide students in all fields of the public finance discipline, develop their ability to think and make decisions as economists. The team of the department of public finance consists of five professors, three associate professors, and four research assistants. 


Aims and Objectives of the Department

The aim of the Public Finance Department is to train students in the fields of establishment and operating rules of local economies and world economies, and to train them as individuals needed in banks, financial institutions, semi-public and private enterprises operating in the private and public sector.
The main objective of the department is; It is to enable students to evaluate various aspects of economic and financial events, provided that they receive education in a scientific environment they will encounter when they graduate.


Program Qualifications

The program qualifications offered by the Department of Public Finance to the students at the end of their undergraduate education are listed below:
 

  • Understanding the subject of financial events and seeing their place and importance in economic life 
  • Understanding the economic and legal environment that constitutes the main environmental conditions of financial events
  • Having information and opinions about Turkey's economic, financial and political history 
  • Understanding the financial events that occur in yhe way of public services in a functional and institutional perspective
  • To provide students with a good theoretical knowledge and view about the basic functions of finance, including expenditure, income and budgeting
  • To learn how financial events (expenditure, income, budgeting) and related disputes are regulated in Turkish legislation
  • Gaining the power of determination and analysis of the policies to be followed in order to ensure the most appropriate and effective use of financial instruments
  • Gaining the power of understand, analyze and interpret public financial manegement in terms of institutions, tools and policies 
  • Gaining knowledge and ideas about international financial problems and solutions
  • Strengthening the equipment of finance undergraduates for certain professional fields of study 
  • To gain the power to analyze, interpret and suggest financial events with their economic, social, political, legal and psychological aspects
  • To master the language, to improve the foreign language and to increase the power to benefit from modern communication technologies
  • Having a sufficient level of general culture (native language, foreign language, history, etc.)

 

Working Opportunities

Graduates of the Department of Public Finance can find the opportunity to work in high-level positions such as Finance Inspector, Revenue Controller, Customs Inspector, Administrative Judiciary Judge and Capital Market Specialist, which are also called career professions in the public sector, and in auditing, inspector and specialist positions in various financial institutions. In the private sector, they can work in banks, accounting offices or in the administrative and financial affairs departments of companies. Students of the Department of Public Finance, on the other hand, can take the Independent Accountant and Financial Advisor exam and become a Financial Advisor after completing their intership in the field of accounting.

In addition, graduates of the department can contunie their graduate education and be employed as research assistants and/or lecturers at universities and benefit from academic career opportunities.
