International Women's Day Panel

Our Dean participated as a moderator in the International Women's Day panel.

A panel titled "The Importance and Position of Women in Society" was organized on March 8th as part of International Women's Day by the Women Entrepreneurs Committee of the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce. The panel, which discussed the concept of "Unity for Equality," was moderated by our Dean, Prof. Dr. Serap Palaz. The speakers included Prof. Dr. Gökhan Orhan, the Head of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at our faculty, and Prof. Dr. Vehbi Bayhan, the Head of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at BANÜ.

The opening speech of the program was delivered by Gözde Engür, the Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Committee of the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce. Engür emphasized that the economic empowerment of women is not only an individual achievement but also a societal gain. Our Dean, Prof. Dr. Serap Palaz, highlighted that gender equality can only be achieved through a shift in society’s mindset, not just through laws. While the speakers presented their topics, Prof. Dr. Vehbi Bayhan explained how the concept of gender shapes individuals' identities. Bayhan stated, "Femininity and masculinity are not innate, unchangeable traits; rather, they are identities shaped according to the roles society assigns to us." Prof. Dr. Gökhan Orhan, who addressed the social position of women and inequalities, pointed out that global data shows women are disadvantaged in many areas. Orhan stated, "The scales are not balanced. Women face a significant disadvantage compared to men."

At the end of the panel, participants were given gifts through a raffle in honor of the day. Gifts were presented to our Dean and the panelists by Funda Dedeoğlu, the Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce Council, and Gözde Engür, the Chairperson of the Women Entrepreneurs Committee of the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce.
