2022 Nobel Prize

Ben Bernanke, Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig were awarded the Nobel prize in economic sciences for 2022 for their research on banks and financial crises.

The  Nobel Committee noted that the economic laureates for this year had significantly improved the understanding of banks' roles in the economy, especially during financial crises. The committee further noted that the winners’ research had enhanced the general understanding of banks, banking regulation, financial crises, and ways to manage them.
This year's laureates "have significantly improved our understanding of the role of banks in the economy, particularly during financial crises. An important finding in their research is why avoiding bank collapses is vital," the academy said.
