Career Event For Senior Class

We Organized a Career Event on the Career Expectations of Fourth-Year Students of the Department of Public Finance

During the Fall Semester of the 2026-2027 Academic Year, the Department of Public Finance organized a career event entitled “Career Paths and Competencies” to contribute to the career planning of fourth-year students and to identify their expectations after graduation.

The event was organized by our esteemed faculty member, Prof. Dr. Sevda AKAR, on September 30, 2026. Following the event, a comprehensive survey was conducted with the participation of 50 students.

The survey results were analyzed in terms of students' preferred career fields and sectors, salary and employment expectations, intentions regarding postgraduate education, satisfaction with the Department, perceptions of their professional preparedness, and expectations from the Department regarding career development.

Career and Sector Preferences

The findings revealed that the public sector holds a significant place in students' career preferences.

While 44% of the students stated that they planned to pursue careers in Group A public sector positions, 24% indicated a preference for Group B public sector positions. The proportion of students who preferred the private sector was 24%.

In addition, 60% of the students expected to secure permanent employment within the first six months after graduation.

Satisfaction with the Department and Professional Preparedness

The results concerning the Department showed that 68% of the students were satisfied or very satisfied with being students of the Department of Public Finance.

In addition, 56% of the students considered that the Department had prepared them adequately for professional life.

While these results indicate an overall positive level of satisfaction, they also reveal an area for improvement in strengthening professional and practice-oriented education to better prepare students for working life.

Students' Expectations for Career Support

Among students' expectations from the Department regarding their career development, support for the KPSS and similar public-sector examinations ranked first at 46%.

This was followed by increasing professional and practice-oriented courses (28%) , expanding internship and workplace training opportunities (26%) , further integrating artificial intelligence and digital technologies into Public Finance education (18%), and supporting foreign language education (16%).

Contribution to Accreditation and Quality Processes

The survey results were also evaluated within the scope of the accreditation and quality improvement activities of the Department of Public Finance. The findings provided valuable data for incorporating students' educational, professional development, and career expectations into the Department's continuous improvement processes.

Based on the findings, strengthening practice-oriented education, expanding internship and workplace opportunities, and enhancing cooperation with public institutions and the private sector were identified as priority areas for improvement. Supporting foreign language skills, digital competencies and artificial intelligence skills, as well as systematically monitoring graduates' employment outcomes, were also identified as important areas for further development.

As the Department of Public Finance, we will continue to regard student feedback as an important component of our education, accreditation, and quality improvement processes and to incorporate the feedback received into our continuous improvement activities.

We sincerely thank our esteemed faculty member, Prof. Dr. Sevda AKAR, for organizing the event and for her valuable contributions and support.
