Academic Rules and Regulations
DEFINITIONS
DOUBLE MAJOR PROGRAM
The total number of students to be admitted to the double major program cannot exceed 20% of the total number of first-year students of the relevant major program in that year.
Excluding equivalent and common courses, the double major program must consist of at least 35% of the total credits of the relevant program.
Application and Admission Requirements
- The relevant department that will open a double major program specifies its quotas at the beginning of each academic semester, announcing the double major curriculum and registration dates.
- Applications for the double major program must be submitted to the student affairs office of the relevant department within the designated dates using the application form and transcript.
- Students can apply to the announced double major program at the beginning of their 3rd semester at the earliest and 5th semester at the latest in undergraduate programs; and at the beginning of their 2nd semester at the earliest and 3rd semester at the latest in associate degree programs.
- A student cannot enroll in more than one double major program at the same time. However, they can enroll in a double major and a minor program simultaneously.
- At the time of application, the student must have successfully completed all the courses taken in the major program.
- Students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the major diploma program is at least 3.00 out of 4.00 at the time of application and who rank in the top 20% in terms of success in the relevant class of the major diploma program can apply to the second major diploma program.
- If the number of applications exceeds the quota, ranking is based on the student's major CGPA. In case of equality in CGPA, the student's central placement exam (ÖSYM) score in the year of enrollment is considered.
Double Major Program Implementation
- The student's success and graduation in the major program are not affected by the double major program. A separate transcript is issued for the double major program.
- The courses (excluding those under Article 5/i of Law No. 2547) for which students admitted to the double major will be responsible are determined by the Senate's approval upon the proposal of the Department Head and recommendation of the Faculty/School/Vocational School Board.
- Courses that can be accepted as equivalent for both programs are agreed upon between departments. Courses taken previously are evaluated by the decision of the Faculty/School/Vocational School Administrative Board during admission.
- Courses credited to both programs are included in the semester registration of both programs and shown on both transcripts. If the student wishes to withdraw from a course considered common to both programs, the withdrawal process applies to both programs.
- A student who is granted a leave of absence in the major program is also considered on leave in the double major program. Students who cannot take courses due to reasons such as course cancellations or schedule conflicts can be granted a semester leave by the decision of the relevant Administrative Board upon the recommendation of the department offering the double major.
- If the relevant department has an evening education program, daytime students can take courses from evening education, and evening students can take courses from daytime education.
- Students registered in a double major program who cannot graduate at the end of the official education period of the diploma program must pay the tuition fee/contribution share determined by the Council of Ministers.
- Courses deemed equivalent in both major and double major programs are included in the semester registrations of both programs and shown on both transcripts.
- Students may leave the double major program voluntarily.
Success and Graduation
- Students who succeed in all courses of the major program and maintain a major CGPA of at least 2.50 out of 4.00 are awarded the double major undergraduate or associate degree diploma. During the entire double major education, the student's major CGPA may fall below 2.50 only once. The registration of a student whose major CGPA falls below 2.50 for the second time will be cancelled.
- For students who obtain the right to graduate from the major diploma program but cannot complete the second major diploma program, the education period can be extended by a maximum of two semesters by the decision of the relevant Administrative Board where the second major is located.
- A double major undergraduate or associate diploma cannot be awarded before the student qualifies for graduation from the major program.
- A student who qualifies for graduation from the major program with a CGPA of 2.50 and completes the double major program with an average of at least 2.00 is awarded the double major diploma.
- When a student leaves the double major program, they do not have to repeat the failed courses of the double major program.
Cancellation of Registration
- A student's registration from the double major program is cancelled in the semester when their registered major program CGPA falls below 2.00.
- The registration of a student who does not take courses for two consecutive semesters in the double major program will be cancelled.
- Courses taken by students whose registration is cancelled from the double major program are shown on their transcript. A student leaving the double major program is entitled to receive a minor certificate if they have fulfilled all the requirements of a minor program.
Tuition Fee / Student Contribution
- Students subject to a double major program only pay the contribution share of the major until they graduate from it. After graduating from the major, they pay the contribution share of the double major.
- A student who registers for a graduate (Master's) program while the double major program continues must also pay the graduate student contribution fee.
Horizontal Transfer
A student in a double major program may transfer to another double major program in accordance with the provisions of the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Programs, Double Major, Minor and Inter-institutional Credit Transfer" and Senate decisions.
MINOR PROGRAM
The number of students to be admitted to a minor program cannot exceed 10% of the total number of first-year students of the relevant major program in that year.
The minor program consists of at least 30 credits, excluding equivalent and common courses.
Common courses of the two programs are included in the semester registration of both programs and shown on both transcripts. If the student wishes to withdraw from a common course, the withdrawal process applies to both programs.
A student who is granted a leave of absence in the major program is also considered on leave in the minor program. Students who cannot take courses due to reasons such as course cancellations or schedule conflicts can be granted a leave of absence for that semester by the decision of the relevant Administrative Board upon the recommendation of the department offering the minor.
