Economics Turkish and English Undergraduate Orientation Program (September 24, 2025)

The Department of Economics at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University organized an orientation program at the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year to help newly enrolled students adapt to university life. The event was held on September 24, 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall, and it attracted great interest from both faculty members and students.

At the opening of the meeting, the Head of the Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Erçakar, delivered a speech. He informed students about the opportunities they will encounter during their academic journey and particularly emphasized the importance of the Double Major (ÇAP), Minor, Internship, and Erasmus exchange programs. In addition, he highlighted the significance of the department’s ongoing STAR accreditation process, as well as the institutional accreditation efforts at the faculty and university level, underlining how these contribute to students’ academic development and career opportunities after graduation. He also stressed that accreditation is not merely a document but a roadmap for continuous improvement.

In the second part of the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Musa Bayır, Vice Head of the Department of Economics, gave a comprehensive presentation. The presentation covered many topics that directly support students’ adaptation to the university. These included the academic calendar, course registration and the use of the University Information Management System (UBYS), BANÜ Mobile and Ping-Pong applications, institutional e-mail and Wi-Fi services, course add-drop procedures, and graduation requirements. Students were provided with solutions to potential challenges they may face during course registration and explanations on how to use the registration and academic advising systems effectively to create efficient study plans.

Dr. Bayır also elaborated on opportunities provided by Double Major, Minor, and Erasmus programs; career development opportunities; student clubs; sports; health and social services;library and cafeteria facilities. In doing so, he emphasized the importance of students being active not only academically but also socially, culturally, and in sports.

A significant part of the presentation focused on the Department of Economics’ ongoing STAR accreditation process. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bayır underlined that accreditation is a process providing direct benefits to students, such as improving the quality of education, harmonizing course content with international standards, increasing recognition in the job market after graduation, and offering multidisciplinary academic development opportunities. He also emphasized the active role of students in this process, pointing out the importance of regular class attendance, making use of academic advising services, and contributing to feedback surveys.

In the closing evaluations, students expressed that the event was a guiding experience for them, while faculty members noted that such programs help establish early communication with students.

The orientation program organized by the Department of Economics at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University enabled new students to start their university life with confidence, raised awareness about academic and social processes, and introduced them more closely to the vision of the department. The program once again demonstrated the department’s commitment to quality in education.
