3. Overall Assessment
Overall, 2024 was highly productive for the Department of Economics in terms of both scholarly output and collaboration capacity. Sustaining this momentum with projects that have a broader impact in the coming years will strengthen the department’s international standing. Furthermore, encouraging publication quality, project diversity, and sustainability-oriented research should be among the strategic priorities.
As of 2024, the department’s academic productivity has shown a notable increase. The number of publications in the Scopus and WoS databases, and especially the high citation rate in Scopus, indicate that the department’s scientific visibility has been steadily rising. This points not only to quantitative growth but also to an improvement in academic quality. The increase in publications over the years demonstrates that faculty members have enhanced their research capacity and that the research infrastructure has been used effectively. In addition, many academics in the department have published in WoS- and Scopus-indexed journals, suggesting that publications are distributed evenly within the department.
The distribution of publications by field reveals the department’s openness to interdisciplinary work. The focus on areas such as environmental science, ecology, and sustainable energy technologies shows that economic problems are addressed together with contemporary environmental and technological issues. This approach supports academic diversity and an innovative perspective. It also offers students a broad academic outlook and supports interdisciplinary thinking skills at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The department’s blending of traditional economics topics with modern environmental and technological themes is a strategic step for scientific development.
The department’s collaborations at both national and international levels expand its academic impact and network. These relationships should be further consolidated through joint projects and publications.
A significant portion of the publications covered by WoS are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Publications on areas such as climate action, clean energy, and industry & innovation are of great importance in terms of both academic contribution and societal impact. In this regard, it is important to promote sustainability-oriented projects and increase their visibility.
